Pinwheels for Peace coming September 21st!

Students have been hard at work creating Pinwheels for Peace this past week!  We will "plant" them on September 21 on the front lawn of the elementary school as a symbolic installation of peace.  At the end of the day, students will pick a pinwheel to take home as a momento!

Collaboration projects in action!

First graders had a blast mixing paint to make some fabulous banners for outside the G-lab after reading The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.  They were only given primary colors and mixed paint to make secondary colors.  They were also given white to tint the colors.  A few artists added black outlines and some swirl stamps to finish the project.
Mrs. Wanke's class made their annual whale spout pictures during art today!  You can visit her blog to see the finished product! http://wankeswonderfulwhales.blogspot.com/2016/09/wonderful-whale-photo-session-2016-2017.html?m=1
Third graders worked together on their concert decorations as well!  Mrs. Wenstrom's class loved listening to their concert cd while they worked!

Welcome Rex!

Have you heard the Dragonfly Studio has a real, live dragon?!  It's true!  Rex the bearded dragon is here!  The kids have been wonderful with welcoming him to PES.
Our new kindergarten friends learned how to make orange paint this week by mixing red and yellow to make a pumpkin   for orange week!  We also mixed yellow and blue to make green leaves and stems!
What amazing artists we have!

Welcome back!

Here we are at week 2 already!  We had a great first week in the Dragonfly Studio!
We worked on our portfolios to hold our works.

Second graders have been hard at work creating colorful banners to hang in the cafeteria featuring different lunchroom manners.

We are starting to create Pinwheels for Peace this week.  We will "plant" them for  World Peace on September 21st.

If you received an Artsonia slip in your child's communicator, please be sure to visit the site complete your registration so your child's work isn't hidden!

Sorry, Mom! I ate my artwork!

One of my favorite end of the year art activities for kindergarten is the edible color wheel!  The kids had a great time mixing primary colored frosting into secondary colors!
Older students were busy with the opening of our favorite, Inventors Studio! They love taking recycled materials and creating something new!
He made a droid to go with his shirt!
We ended the week with Track and Field day and then the ever famous, pie the teacher assembly.  This year I watched my co-workers take numerous pies from the sidelines!

Another successful art show in the books!

Thank you so much for another successful art show!  I truly couldn't do it without your support!
We have had an exciting past couple of weeks in the Dragonfly Studio!  Miss Hoffman's class was presented with their monsters from the high school Art 3/Studio Art classes on Tuesday!  This is my third year collaborating on this project.  The third graders designed and wrote stories about their monsters.  The high school students then built 3D versions of them.  Miss Hoffman even had class books published!
Here we are nearing the middle of May.  Where did this school year go?  I hope everyone gets out and enjoys the beautiful weather this weekend!
